Xploding PLastix Live pÄ Feber Fredag 09.12.05
Feber Konserthus og Bar Fredag 09 Desember
XPLODING PLASTIX (Live)
Dj sett: AlexR
cc: 100 kr
Presse skriv:
Xploding Plastix is Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen. They both grew up in the same small suburban town outside of Oslo, Norway, during the 80ies. Both Jens and Hal had been involved in several local rock-punk-electro outfits before they decided to make music together somewhere in 1999. Sharing the same interest in computers and modern technology as well as having a similar taste in music and movies was decisive in forming the band.
The early influences was jazzdrummers like Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, the Italian-erotic-horror period of Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani, Hip hop, The Mowax, Right Tempo, Easy Tempo and Ninja Tune label as well as TV and movie soundtracks.
Late 99 the band released a 6 track demo, which immediately got them a record deal with one of Norwayâs finest electronic labels: Beatservice Records ( www.beatservice.no ).
In May 2000 the first proper release saw the light of day. The now legendary 7â Treat me mean, I need the reputation.
The first 7â was an instant classic. It was fresh, it was original and it had an irresistible groove. âXploding Plastix composes their music from a plethora of samples and cut ups. Juxtaposing a vibrant organic sound, fleeced with melody and windup-playful beats and rhythmical trickery aplenty.â
Treat me meanâŠwas later to be re-released thru Hospital Records in 2002 to a bigger audience, and was championed by dj's like Ross Allen, JJ Frost, John Peel ,Steve LaMacq, Robert Luis, John Kennedy, Mr Scruff, Patife, LTJ Bukem, Giles Peterson, Coldcut, Peshay, Calibre, MA Hobbs, Nookie, Grooverider, Fabio and Bryan Gee to mention a few. The tune was playlisted on more than 50 radio stations throughout Europe, including; Radio one - Wales Session, BBC Radio, XFM, London Live, Jazz FM and Solid Steel
In March 2001 the debut album Amateur Girlfriends go proskirt Agents was released. To rave reviews. The album was chosen as album of the year in several magazines and nominated to the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy, for best Electronic album of the year.
After the release of Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents, the band went out touring. England, USA, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Austria, Netherlands and of course Norway. And festivals: Roskilde, Quart, G. Festival-Faroe Islands, In the City, Haldern Festival, Frequency, Insomnia Fest, Lowlands, South by Southwest, PopKomm, Eurosonic, SPOT, CMJ, Molde jazz festival, Nattjazzen, Dolajazz....and more. NME saw the band playing in Manchester and reviewed the concert: âDJ Foodâs mad drums, Aphex Twinâs time signatures and The Herbaliserâs moodiest, cinematic bits. Awesome.â Tony Naylor (NME)
Xploding Plastix have released tracks on Pork Recordings (UK), Tar Media Productions (Canada), Hospital Records (UK), Irma Records (IT), Groove Distribution (US), Beatservice (Norway) and Sony Music (Scandinavia). In addition theyâve done, remixes and commissioned work for TV, radio and production companies, and the new Bacardi campaign in the US.
Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents are released in new territories every month, and keeps on selling. It has been licensed to Palm Pictures for release in US January 2004, and UK Feb. 2004. The act has a crossover audience ranging from jazz lovers, avant-garde, pop, indie and the dance/electro fraternity.
EBU (European Broadcast Union) has also been supporters of Xploding Plastix, and 14 European National radio stations (inc. John Peel, BBC Radio One, WDR, Radio France ++) broadcasted the live set they did at the Eurosonic festival in Groningen (NL) January 2003. Xploding Plastix also did a DJ mix for EBU spring 2003 called DONCA-MATIC SONGS MIXES BY XPLODING PLASTIX.
After touring the best parts of 2001 and 2002, the band decided to change labels. From Beatservice Records to Sony Music.
In March 2003 the Benevolent Volume Lurkings Ep was released. Including the fantastic and frantic tune The Famous Biting Guy. It immediately entered playlists and charts. In June, the single Sunset Spirals, featuring Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne on vocals got released. It got a great reception and was playlisted in both national as well as local radio stations.
The 29th of September 2003 Xploding Plastix released their second full-length album. Titled: The Donca Matic Singalongs, on Sony Music Norway
The band wanted to leave a lot of the cinematic jazz influences behind and introduced a more electronic sound on the second platter. The Donca Matic Singalongs is an amazingly melodic album, juggling styles like it was second nature. From Drumân bass to electro to psycho-country, to pop, to drillân surf rock and back to the break beat. The critics loved it and the album entered the charts immediately upon release. This album, like the first, was also âalbum of the weekâ on National radio channel P3.
The band went on touring Norway after the release of the second album. The tour dates of 2003 were finished off by 2 shows in New York City.
